Setting out the tiles…
How to play Mahjong Connect
- Find two identical tiles. Flowers match flowers and seasons match seasons, just as in mahjong solitaire.
- Join them with a line. Tap the first tile, then the second. The line between them may bend at most twice, may only pass through empty spaces, and may run around the outside of the board.
- Clear the board. Every board can be cleared. If no pair can be joined, shuffle the tiles or undo your last moves.
Mahjong Connect is also known as Shisen-sho (四川省) in Japan and Sachunseong (사천성) in Korea. All the tiles lie flat, so instead of digging through stacks you look for a clear path.
Questions
How is it different from mahjong solitaire?
In mahjong solitaire the tiles are stacked and a tile must be open on one side. In Mahjong Connect every tile lies flat, and two tiles can go if a line with at most two bends can join them.
Can the line go around the edge?
Yes. The space just outside the board counts as empty, so tiles on the same edge can usually be joined around the outside.
Is every game winnable?
Yes. Each board is dealt so that a winning order exists. If you get stuck, shuffle the remaining tiles or undo a few moves.
